Who wears the trousers…..?

YHVH established from the beginning a distinction between the sexes. He created the male and female with distinctive natures and functions, which are to be maintained and preserved. Cross-dressing is a violation of Scripture. It is inappropriate for men and women to wear each other’s garments. Yahveh detests that which makes a woman masculine or a man effeminate. Satan has made every attempt to remove the distinction that YHVH has established.
The unisex movement of our day has brought much confusion and corruption in our society. Cross-dressing did not begin in the kahal of Yeshua HaMashiach. Cross-dressing has its origin among the heathen in their worship of their gods. It is also practiced and promoted in the sodomite community.

Before we actually take a look at Deuteronomy 22:5, let’s consider the context. Many would object to our use of an Old Testament passage on the subject of clothing, but of thirty verses in this chapter, only three could possibly be questionable as to whether they would apply to the “church”. Praise Yahveh as Torah Observant Followers of Yeshua we look to glean from all of the Torah that applies to us, not looking to throw out any that we should observe.The majority of the chapter is showing how our relationship should be to our neighbor, marriage, adultery and rape.Now, back to verse five. Nowhere in the New Brit Chadasha did YAHVEH change this truth.

“The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.”

The word “abomination” “toevah” is found several times in the Tanakh and Brit Chadasha. It means that which is disgusting, detestable, hateful or vile. In other words, it is that which makes sick. YAHVEH has not changed, that which was an abomination three thousand years ago is still an abomination today. In the Bible, once something is an abomination, it is always an abomination. In Leviticus 18:22, sodomy is considered an abomination; idolatry is an abomination, (Deuteronomy 7:25), witchcraft is an abomination (Deuteronomy 18:9-14), and according to Revelation 17:5, mystery Babylon, the great whore is an abomination. According to the text, Deuteronomy 22:5, anyone who wears clothes that pertaineth (resembleth) to the opposite sex is an abomination. The subject is serious business with YAHVEH and should command our attention.

Deuteronomy 22:5 reveals the fact that men and women’s outer garments in Bible times were not identical. Breeches were men’s apparel that cover the legs, at least below the knees. Every time breeches are mentioned in the Bible they refer to men’s garments.

The phrase “gird up thy loins” is never mentioned concerning a woman (Job 38:3, 40:7, I Kings 18:46, John 13:4). The man’s garment could be gathered up and girded about the waist to allow more freedom for walking, running or battle. A woman’s garment resembled floor length dresses which did not accent the figure. These garments were very modest when bending over or working. The woman’s garment would resemble a robe.

In I Timothy 2:9, the word “apparel” is used in reference to a woman’s garment, “In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array.”

The Greek word for apparel here is “katastole”, which means as we have already stated, “a long floor length garment.” Not only is there a clear distinction between the sexes in their dress, but a difference in many other areas also.

In I Corinthians 11:14-15, there is to be a difference in the length of hair. The text says that even nature teaches us that there is a difference between a man and a woman. She is called the weaker vessel in I Peter 3:7. There is a clear distinction in size, strength, looks, voice and many other areas. The facial hair (beard) on a man is clearly another difference between the sexes.

The unisex movement of our day is breaking down the distinction between the sexes. Cross-dressing is promoting the sodomite agenda and the unisex society that will line up with the Antichrist’s kingdom. Many transvestites parade around in public dressed as a woman. You might be shocked at how many Sodomite fashion designers are in the clothing business today. Again, sodomy and idolatry have always gone hand in hand with cross-dressing.

The term used much is androgynous, androgynous fashion, androgynous models
(check link here ), a look at the definition of this word should open up the agenda at play behind it:

being both male and female; hermaphroditic.
having both masculine and feminine characteristics.
having an ambiguous sexual identity.

neither clearly masculine nor clearly feminine in appearance: the androgynous look of many rock stars.
Botany . having staminate and pistillate flowers in the same inflorescence.

So its clear to see that we live at the thin end of the wedge, the blurring of the boundaries over the years has lead to a place where the idea of having a sexually ambiguous identity is en vogue…..Toevah

One example of the close association between sodomy and cross-dressing is seen in the following information:

“Virginia Mollenknott, a lesbian, was a consultant for the New International Version of the Bible in the 1970’s. The word sodomite does not appear in the translation at all. She has often bragged about her lesbianism. In 2001, she published Omnigender. In this book she describes her aversion to wearing dresses. She said, “I feel myself to be female all right, but masculine at the same time, so that dresses and skirts feel rather ridiculous. . . and this despite the fact that as a child I was not allowed to wear overalls, shorts, or pants. . . One of the greatest benefits of coming out publicly as a lesbian was that I could go through my closet and give away all my dresses and skirts except for a few Gertrude Sten-ish floor-length skirts that somehow seemed less of an affront to my nature.” You will notice that she admits that dresses are feminine and that pants are masculine.

Pants on women have not become outdated like most fashions, proving it to be Satan’s favorite sin. Pants have always symbolized man’s authority. Even the world knows this truth. Just look on a bathroom door in our public bathrooms. One side will have a figure with a dress and the other pants. The church years ago would not have tolerated cross-dressing. Even Ethel Traphagen, a fashion designer who promoted the wearing of slacks among women around 1915, in later years, said she was sorry she ever suggested such a fashion. In one hundred years (1900’s) our entire nation was revolutionized in the area of dress.”

The very fact that the world loves and promotes cross-dressing between the sexes should bring caution to the “Christian”. If our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, then we should not defile it with wearing that which is called an abomination.We live in times where we view our faith and external expression of faith through a culturally inculcated lens, we need to wipe the accumulated build of cultural grime and view it once more as it was presented.

Reading this may or may not make you feel uncomfortable, but that is what the worlds agenda has done to us as believers, we have been bombarded with non biblical modes and methods for so long we have assimilated to the culture we live in, and even make excuses for it. We are commanded to learn not the “way of the heathen” and the command to dress modestly and gender appropriately really flies in the face of our societal “norms”?! I used to love my jeans and my lovely long hair hanging loose, but through study, prayer and the Ruach, Yeshua has led me to appreciate that we are called to be a physical witness, Torah is a whole life proposition, it guides us in how we dress, eat, raise our children, how we celebrate. We lose our lives (our culturally accepted ways included) and find it in following Yeshua.

Beards, tzitzits, headcoverings, modesty, kosher, all this things are prescriptions for living by Yahveh for our good, in spite of the pressure and noise of the context we live in.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
and your ways are not my ways,” says YAHVEH. Isaiah 55:8

” And the Lord hath avouched thee this day to be His peculiar people, as He hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all His commandments,”

“In turn Adonai is agreeing today that you are his own unique treasure, as he promised you; that you are to observe all his mitzvot;” Deut 26:18

We should find our lives resembling the model laid down in Torah (Gen-Rev) more and more each day. For those who love Yeshua keep His Commandments, and as this love grows so should our understanding and application of the commandments..


The value of Mitzvot, action reaps character, breaking down the wall of separation….

Had a few conversations this week in and around the subjects of mitzvot, from Tzitziot, beards, to tithing. The common motif in discussing these issues with believers who don’t submit/observe Torah, is why?Tzitzit

“Why do you do these things, to be saved?… is it a works righteousness, why are you bound in this way?…..”

Now for me the clincher is in our mindset, for many western believers- they have unknowingly inherited a greek dualist mindset. The pervasive sacred/secular mindset, which holds that there are the “things of the world” and the “things of God”.In our increasingly secular contexts, public professions of faith (esp. biblical ones) are positively discouraged and frowned upon (esp. in UK). Or we see christianity co-opted into political agendas and debate which scream loudly against anything Yeshua ever espoused ( US). These tactics of suppression/co-opting of the faith are historically the two main ways in which regimes have tried to silence/subvert the gospel.

When we look to Yeshua we see Him time and time again call us to a “whole life” expression of faith. The places where he taught were in the midst of life, the teaching he brought spoke in the language of the fisherman, farmer and common man.3261050127_878fbb4b32_zHe wrought the miraculous in the midst of the mundane, with clay stained hands bringing sight to the blind. For Him there was no sacred/secular only the Kingdom, breaking out in the now-through right thought, speech and action. From a Hebrew perspective everything can be brought into the sacred through action and intent.


This to me sums up the driver behind the mitzvots of Torah the recognition that each and every part/moment of our lives has eternal implications. YHVH wanted us to draw this revelation into the midst of our lives. We live our lives in the sight of The Kadosh Elohim, when we seek to live out Torah, we show this by our actions. How we dress, eat, teach our kids, celebrate, is of value and importance to YHVH, He has provided a template for us to know Him in a deeper way through Torah.

Now, heres the distinction which a lot of people miss, these mitzvot do not guarantee salvation, they were never meant to . YHVH never tells us this…..

However YHVH tells us His commandments/teachings/statutes/precepts/Torah are:

  • not burdensome.
  • are to be on our hearts.
  • the duty of all mankind.
  • to be kept to enter life. (ie: the life that pleases YHVH).

Furthermore there are many promises, blessings for those who keep (watch, guard, protect, watch over) His commands/teachings/statutes/precepts/Torah:

  • “….showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.” Exodus 20:5-7


  • “Know therefore that the YHVH your Elohim is Elohim; he is the faithful El, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.”Deuteronomy 7:8-10
  • “YHVH, The Elohim of heaven, the great and awesome El, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments”,Nehemiah 1:4-6

There are many more scriptures try a study/search on (commands/teachings/statutes/precepts and see what YHVH is saying to you.

YHVH changes not, the eternal Torah He gave to Israel, remains just that eternal, the promise of long life and blessing to those who keep His commandments still stand. Through Yeshua we are grafted into Israel, (not in place of), and we become partakers of the promises and commandments of YHVH (the fat of the root Paul/Sha’ul speaks of).

Paul/Sha’ul tells us “Every scripture inspired of YHVH is also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness. That the man of YHVH may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work. (2 Tim 3:16-17).

The scripture Paul/Sha’ul was speaking of was Tanakh (What many call the OT), we see that the commandments after Yeshua remain profitable for “…instruction which is in righteousness..” which we can take here to mean right living.

I believe that applying the mitzvot to our daily lives brings us into tune with the kind of life YHVH wants us to have, one in which we define ourselves in Him through Yeshua. Where our rhythym and life cycle is marked by His beat not that of the prevailing culture in which we live. Each mitzvot reveals an aspect of YHVH’s redemptive relational history with his people. And furthermore we see prophetic threads running through them which pointed to Yeshuas earthly ministry and coming Kingdom (more on this soon).

By submitting to Torah we actively seek to DSC07324redress the false sacred/secular split that has been used to fragment our relationship with Our Creator. And as our lives begin to take on the shape and form he ordained, the outward actions have inner reactions, as the Ruach breathes life into the letter.
